The First Snow

November 16, 2018

There is just something so magical and so comforting about the snow. As soon as it falls for the first time of the season, immediately I feel smaller, but more content. I feel as if my little world of trips to the ocean and being on the lake and wearing bikinis for clothes and my levi's shorts and my canvas tote bag filled with my books, sunglasses, towels and bits of sand are stored away in another universe. Onto the next segment of adventures. Cozier and more bundled- small and quiet. Trips to the White Mountains in my boyfriend's Subaru with the heat blasting, blanket scarf draped around me, mocha's in the cup holder listening to our favorite music and visions of blanketed mountains with specs of hunter green poking out like the quills of a porcupine. Unplanned stops to get a glimpse of a spectacular view, or to lazily stroll through the neatly lined shops along a small town center. The entire atmosphere changes when the first snow falls. I become excited for the holidays- to spend them with my family. Watching the Macy's Day Parade, eating until our bellies become stuffed, napping it off and creating new traditions.
It's crazy, how a little snow can make you change your perspective on life. As I look out my window at the sun glistening through the frosted pine trees, I feel overwhelmed with gratitude. I am thankful for this life, where I live (even though the progression of the winters can be brutal), and where I am going.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
Amanda
